In a lighthouse the Fresnel lens is wrapped around the lamp concentrating the light rays into a powerful and parallel beam, which can be seen with a naked eye as far away as 20 miles. I took this when I visit the Kinnaird Head Lighthouse Scotland.
Very neat shot. They’re a real example of masterly glass making, and beautiful.
I stood in front of a Fresnel lens like this, in Maine, and a former lighthouse keeper held up a little electric candlestick, I don’t think the bulb was more than 8 or 10 watts at most, but the lens concentrated the light so that you could not look directly at it. Amazing.
wow what a stunning view, Fresnel lenses are such a fantastic invention, creating a lens with such power in such a thin space
It really is an ingenious system to magnify the light 🙂
Great shot and a wonderful color.
Nice image and interesting perspective.
Well-done.
Very nice Simon. Living in an area full of Lights makes it even more interesting. Thanks.
Intriguing image – the geometry of it!
Cool!
That is so very cool. The photo, the lighthouse… Awesome.
