Inchmahome Priory

Inchmahome Priory is situated on an island in the centre of Lake of Menteith, close to Aberfoyle Scotland. By the way there are no lakes in Scotland, there just happens to be a Loch called The Lake of Menteith. The priory was built around 1238 for a small community of Augustinian order [ the black cannons ] In 1547 at the age of 4 Mary Queen of Scots was brought here for safety by her mother Mary de Guise, after the scots defeat at the Battle of Pinkie which happen East of Edinburgh. It was a catastrophic defeat for Scotland, where it became known as Black Saturday.DSC_0018-Small02JPeg
