The Mewstone

The Mewstone

A distinctive feature visible from Wembury beach near Plymouth Devon is the Mewstone. This is a triangular island which is currently uninhabited. However, it has served as a prison and a refuge for local smugglers. The beach at Wembury is well known for its surfing and rock pooling. Basking sharks can be seen in the summer around the Mewstone. The photo was taken at dusk.

  1. Thanks for sharing a great picture which has stirred up some memories. We had two fabulous holidays at Churchwood Valley (http://www.churchwoodvalley.com/) and remember The Mewstone. There are many great walks in this area as well as hours of fun to be had along the shore. I probably have some shots buried away somewhere. Thanks once again for sharing.
